Timothy Yessman, Managing Director

Background and Experience

Prior to forming Avalon in 2004, Mr. Yessman served as Executive Vice President of the St Paul Companies, where he was the senior claims officer across the entire St Paul group. From 1985 through 2001, Mr. Yessman held a number of positions in the Law and Claims Department of Travelers, most recently as the Senior Vice President in charge of Travelers Special Liability Group. Mr. Yessman received his JD from the Villanova University School of Law and his BA from Seton Hall University.

Insurance Claims Consultancy Services

Mr. Yessman provides organizational consulting services to numerous claims departments throughout the US. In that capacity, not only does Mr. Yessman advise on particular complex claims, but he also advises companies as to claim department organizational structure and provides claims training and education to those companies’ claims professionals. Representative clients have included One Beacon, Hanover Insurance and Horace Mann Insurance.

Expert Witness

Mr. Yessman also serves as an expert witness in litigation and arbitration throughout the United States. His areas of expertise includes claims handling protocols, bad faith claims handling practices, and industry custom and practice with respect to claims monitoring and adjustment. He has served as an expert witness over a dozen times.

Arbitration

Mr. Yessman has also served as arbitrator or umpire in more than fifteen complex insurance and reinsurance disputes.
